Mahalia Barnes & Jade MacRae: Sharing Soul At The Trinity Sessions ~ Review

In the city that has so many of them, there is nothing quite like listening to soul music inside the acoustic church walls of the Trinity Sessions. It is not so often you get this much Australian talent on one small stage but the beautiful vocals of Mahalia Barnes and Jade MacRae in front of an outstanding collection of musicians (and special guests) charmed this sold out crowd for over two hours. Mahalia Barnes, Jade MacRae and special guest Karen Lee Andrews’ vocal precision perfectly breathed life in harmony into every song they performed. Playing a combination of originals and covers – and the occasional random request from the audience – they managed to wow the crowd with their storytelling, musical prowess and the ability to perform any song at the audiences’ request. Our vocalists connected perfectly with the audience, triumphantly forming them into acquire choir of backing vocalists. Every performer on stage blended exquisitely with each other to create this remarkable night of soul music. From Russel Morris’ The Real Thing to Ike and Tina Turner’s River Deep, Mountain High we were captivated by every song, every note and every moment. Closing the show with a remarkable rendition of Helen Reddy’s I Am Woman our women of song and their fantastic band left every man and woman in the church halls stunned at the vocal ranges of these three astonishingly talented and strong women.
