Russian-born celebrity waxer Rosa Waxoffski returns to the Adelaide Cabaret Festival with her bikini hair removal tips and celebrity gossip that is sure to get everyone cheering. Rosa is absolutely hilarious!
As one of the many comedic characters of Australian actress Marney McQueen, Rosa Waxoffski is probably her most famous having made many television hosts and audience members blush over the years.
The performance commenced with Russian’s biggest pianist Boris Longshlongadongski conveying his love for his cherished Rosa in between telling jokes that were so lame they were hysterical. The beat of The Village People’s Y.M.C.A. began and the spotlight hit Rosa moving through the audience singing her own version of the song Bikini Wax. Rosa tells cheeky tales of vajazzling and waxing her celebrity clients Barack Obama, Her Majesty the Queen, Kate Middleton and Vladamir Putin, but tonight the best were her secrets about audience member Pauline Hanson. It was great to see Pauline willing to play along so well with Rosa’s jokes.
Interacting with the audience is what Rosa does best with her quick-wit and brave audience participation requests. The Manliest Russian competition included this reviewer on stage downing vodka shots, eating gherkins and twerking, like all macho Russian’s and as the winner, flicking her private switch to ensure a flashy vajazzled ending. Beware the front row!
The singing was scarce compared to most cabaret shows, but definitely entertaining, with altered lyrics to Sia’s Chandelier and Helen Reddy’s I Am Woman as well as Boris’ contributions on piano. Marney McQueen’s voice suits the pop music brilliantly.
It could still be the vodka talking, but Marney McQueen is the total package. Make sure you buy your tickets now for her final Cabaret Festival performance.
Marney McQueen performs Hair To The Throne at Space Theatre, Adelaide Festival Centre, from 7pm on Mon 8 Jun.
