Sugar, Sat Feb 14. This great big, funny, friendly, hairy bear of an Irishman wrapped us in his irresistible mix of spontaneous humour, hilarious storytelling and total irreverence, and it was a sweet and memorable encounter. Martin’s delivery is as informal as it gets, and there is no distance between audience and performer. We are guests in his world and he is endlessly interested to find out about us, include us in his stories and keep us laughing. His irreverence is masterful and there’s nothing he won’t drop into the conversation, with uproarious results. Yet, there is no danger in being in this man’s audience. He will make sure you are okay, while he entertains, cajoles and shocks you with outrageous and hilarious insights, then he makes it seem like everyday conversation. With a mish-mash of curiosity about our culture and stories from his life in Ireland, the standouts were his advice to anyone skydiving, the ins-and-outs of colonic irrigation (the second comedian in two nights!) and some unforgettable ideas for birthday treats!! Martin is an adorable Master of feel-good comedy. His style is unpretentious, his energy authentic and his skill is inspiring.
