[COMEDY ~ AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE ~ GBR]

National Wine Centre – The Gallery, Fri 22 Feb.

Edinburgh based improv stars Charlie, Will, Steve and Colin make their Adelaide debut at this year’s fringe. They took to the stage at the National Wine Centre to bring us their unique brand of quick-witted improvised comedy and Adelaide enthusiastically embraced them.

Set at the impressive National Wine Centre venue, the crew played to a lively sell out audience of all ages who were only too willing to join in the fun; calling out suggestions for scenarios, some of which drew laughs in themselves. Charlie, Will and Steve ably wove these suggestions into comedic routines, combining acting, singing, and rapping, as well as extremely expressive faces and body language when challenged to perform a musical called Awkward Silence: The Musical. All of this with Colin keeping pace on the keyboard establishing mood and pace in response to what was happening on stage.

At one point the team re-enacted the love story of a couple in the audience from a few key pieces of information provided, as the couple squeaked a rubber chicken if the action was close to reality (rarely in other words!) and a horn if it went off track; which of course it humorously did. I am not sure where the coconuts came into it entirely but the couple in question did walk off with a coconut for allowing their love story to be hammed up for comedic effect.

Throughout, the performers looked to be enjoying themselves as much as the audience. This was a hilarious show and one that could be revisited as each show uniquely unfolded based on audience suggestions. Don’t miss this one – highly recommended!
