[MUSIC/Latin ~ WORLD PREMIERE ~ SA]

Nexus Arts, Wed 26 Feb.

Acclaimed trumpeter and composer Lazaro Numa’s performance at Adelaide Fringe 2020 is a show not to be missed!

Born in Havana Cuba and surrounded by arguably some of the best Cuban musicians of the time, Lazaro picked up his first trumpet at age eight, fell in love with it and has never looked back. Based now in Adelaide (lucky us!) Lazaro brings us a lively and exotic show filled with mesmerising and complex Cuban beats and his signature trumpet playing.

Lazaro and his excellent band takes us on a 100 year journey through Cuban musical history, playing a selection of well-known pieces and including a number of tracks from his recent album Mi Cuba. For the novice it was quite the cultural learning experience to be exposed to so many unique Cuban styles including Cha-cha-cha, Conga, Mozambique and Rumba to name but a few. Lazaro artfully guided us through this rich history, occasionally explaining the roots and influences of each. He had the entire audience up on their feet and moving with the final piece, a lively Conga.

Another delight was the presence of two pairs of dancers who shared the stage with Lazaro and delighted the audience with extraordinary displays of talent and flair.

Be quick or miss out!

4.5 stars
