[AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE ~ NZ ~ IF YOU LOVE… MUSIC THAT MOVES YOU]

Space Theatre, Fri 21 Jun.

Modern Maori Quartet return for their second year to Adelaide Cabaret Festival with an original Māori play with songs from the heart. And they are beyond fantastic! These men bring with them the humour, the talent, the stage presence and their voices, oh their voices!!

The story they told was touching and emotional and there were very few dry eyes and many lumps in throats as their message unrolled before us on stage. Their characters portray lives of love lost and living on, alive on the outside and dead on the inside. Love that could have been, if only he had told her. Being true to yourself, being proud of your culture, regret and sadness of the consequences of not. The pressure of trying to please everyone, and succeed in a new and unknown future and hope, belief that he can do better. Together with their sense of humour makes the stories poignant and believable. Once again cements them as crowd favourites.

The group bring more of the Māori song to the stage this year, and although the words are not understood, the emotion attached to them cannot be mistaken. Words cannot express enough how powerful and brilliant this production is. I loved them last year and was very much looking forward to seeing them perform again this year, and they did not disappoint!

Honestly, don’t miss these guys; you will not regret watching them perform and being immersed in the honesty, strength and heart of the beautiful harmonies. This is how a musically spiritual Islander experience truly feels. They are so good, I’m seeing them twice!
