In an Australian first, South Australia’s No Strings Attached Theatre of Disability will collaborate with Singapore’s Very Special Theatrix (VST) this February to devise, develop and deliver a new collaborative theatrical piece to be presented at the inaugural True Colours Festival, The Asia Pacific Celebration of Artistes with Disabilities in Singapore Fri 23 March – Sun 25 Mar. Together, they will present the World Premiere of I Forgot to Remember to Forget in partnership with Singapore International Foundation.

No Strings Attached (NSA) was established in South Australia in 1993 and over the past 24 years has been shining the light on those born to be on the stage, who live with disability.

NSA’s mission is to lead the way in training, services and opportunities for disabled artists by creating world class theatre, and supporting members to develop career paths in the performing arts. Past performances include:-

  • The Gathering – Spirit Festival 2017ew
  • Godzilla vs No Strings – Adelaide Fringe Festival 2017
  • Of Two Minds – Adelaide Fringe Festival 2016
  • Sons & Mothers – Ruby Award winners – Community Impact, Helpmann Award Nominees – Best Regional Touring Production 2015
  • Sons & Mothers – National tour to all States and Territories 2014

Under the guidance of Artistic Director Alirio Zavarce, NSA’s methodology brings a synergistic approach to creating new theatre pieces that reflect, and give voice to, the lived experience of the company’s actors. This is done in an environment that promotes learning suitable to each individual artist as well as that of the entire ensemble drawing on the natural creative energies of each performer and guiding them to reach their maximum potential.

Through weekly theatre skills workshops, participants not only develop social and community inclusion and involvement skills but also build competence and capacity towards performance outcomes by developing new pathways for employment within the disability and broader performing arts sector.

With a sneak peek of what’s in store ahead of the launch of their fabulous 2018 programme on Wed 24 Jan at the Regal Theatre, Alirio Zavarce expressed his excitement for projects being undertaken in the coming year which not only include continual growth of current works but also a number of exciting opportunities to take the company and its group of talented artists to the stage in both national and international performances.

No Strings Attached Theatre of Disability is proud to showcase the incredible talents of South Australian performers who live with disability, here in Adelaide, across the country and around the world!
