The Speakeasy at Gluttony, Wed 7 Mar.

[COMEDY – UK]

With nearly 20 years nursing experience, Georgie Carroll has plenty of material to draw from in her one-woman stand-up comedy blast. She is in ten places at once, has her hands in all sorts of places, and definitely hits our funny bones.

Bundling in with plenty of energy, and drumming up a huge cheer, she suddenly develops a WorkCover limp, then settles in to share some weird and wonderful insights into a world where real life happens. The good, bad and the embarrassing is shared and laughed about – not for the squeamish! It’s up close, and too personal, because nurses see it all and develop a very practical, resilient nature. Admittedly, they can be quite judgey of some of their patients, but they still care.

In this season, Carroll branches outside the hospital environment a little, including some family material that is hilariously relatable, and includes relevant, topical content. A genuinely funny show, The Gloves Are Off is a proper crack-up.
