Gluttony – The Octagon
Entering The Octagon there is an excited buzz as everyone scurries to find their seats and as the show promptly starts, our ears are treated to a much slower and sexier live version of a White Stripes classic. We then meet our hosts for the night, who are equal parts charming and hilarious. Papillon however is not your typical circus act and while they do cover some of your classic circus acrobatics they have definitely managed to put their own edge on the experience as a whole.
The circus acts kicked off with one man and his walking ladder as he weaved in and around it while balancing on its two legs. He returned later in the show with chairs to do much of the same thing. Other routines included adagio, spinning plates, balance, juggling and a random moment where one performer walks/jumps on broken glass, the purpose of which I think we were all unsure of. Other highlights included some amazing aerial acrobatics – one in particular which was a definite crowd pleaser was the corde lisse where one of the male performers not only impressed with his strength and grace but also his rock hard abs. However, our hosts for the evening were the standout, keeping the energy up between acts and ending the night with an unbelievable combination of hilarious burlesque juggling.
While there was the occasional dull moment throughout the evening for the most part Papillon kept the crowd entertained with its circus, comedy and musical performances. This adults only show is definitely not one to miss and will have you leaving with a grin from ear to ear.
