The Garden Of Unearthly Delights’ Cupola, Fri Mar 6

François Loyal, our gracious host has curated the greatest and most profound artists the world has ever seen (perhaps, maybe…)! Plague Of Idiots is a ridiculous collection of lovably stupid characters that will have you simultaneously captivated and doubled over in laughter.  It is clear from the outset that the performance will not necessarily go to plan for Monsieur Loyal; imagine a Basil Faulty as a French theatre host, with never-ending patience for his motley troupe.

Hanquin Squirrel – possibly the world’s best bugle player – astounds us with a lesson in physics that Carl Sagan would have been proud of. Lou Lou performs Broadway classics brilliantly, and rather than simply stopping at cabaret, we are fortunate that he also includes a performance of one of his own compositions for solo violin which left the audience in tears of laughter. However the highlight is Pesto and Hanquin Squirrel’s duet of The Flower (from Lakmé), the most hauntingly beautiful toilet humour anyone has ever witnessed.

If a wacky blend of Shakespeare, Monty Python, Broadway, Boney M and Opera are your thing then head to Cupola for a night with Monsieur Loyal and his Plague of Idiots and remember what is like to be a kid again.  You will be richly rewarded with a wonderful night of pure absurdity; it is the perfect antidote for a week of work.

Sian Williams
