Tandanya Theatre at Live From Tandanya, Wed 8 Mar.
If you are happy not to take your theatre too seriously, then this is the show for you, because the Pretty Boys don’t take themselves too seriously either. The story of ‘boy band meets record producer’ has been seen before, but this time with a bit of an international twist (and terrorist or two)!
Kev, Tom, Leigh and David finally become the Pretty Boys once they have gone through their trial and tribulations in becoming the ‘next big thing’ with the help of some very dodgy characters. Along their journey we hear this ensemble recreate some of the more loved boyband songs of the ‘90s and ‘00s along with some interesting choreography that is almost too big to fit on the stage.
The team have executed what looks like a fun show to rehearse, because obviously, rehearse they did. Everyone on that stage tonight worked their ‘butts off’ with typical boyband moves gyrating and grooving along to the sounds they were creating, and boy (!), it sounded great. The front row would have gotten more than an eyeful at times, and they seemed to love it.
If you like your ‘90s/’00s boyband music and even a few girl bands too, then you can join in and sing along with some of your favourites. If you don’t know all of the music too well, then you can sit back and enjoy the acapella sounds of this bunch of self-proclaimed pretty boys.
