[COMEDY/STAND UP ~ SA PREMIERE ~ NSW]

Gluttony – Masonic Lodge – Phoenix Room, Wed 13 Mar.

The venue for tonight’s performance by award winning comedian Rhys Nicholson was a dark boxy room in the basement of the Masonic Lodge – Rhys loved it! He told us there was a sound-proofed door out back of the stage that he didn’t quite dare to open… best not to poke one’s nose into such things at the Masonic Lodge!

Immaculately dressed in a perfectly cut suit and with his signature red coif, Rhys entertained the near-capacity crowd for an hour, regaling us with stories and anecdotes from his life thus far. Nothing was off the table it seems, with his material getting more risqué as the evening progressed. If you are comfortable knowing why Rhys calls his chest the ‘Bermuda Triangle’ then you’ll fit right in and have a marvellously good time!

Rhys opined about getting older and how 29 just didn’t have the gravitas of being 30 and that being an ‘adult’ was somehow escaping him. Fortunately for him he has discovered the power of drinks coasters!

Rhys apparently doesn’t identify as male or female, but more as that ‘fun Aunt’ you had as a child… the one you realise as an adult was in desperate need of therapy.

Tales of fur-babies and ‘skin-pigs’, baby-teeth and ‘Marie-Kondoing’ friends (“She just didn’t spark joy!” he declared) had us in stitches, and his depiction of his dog (Sir Anthony Hopkins) gas-lighting him was genuinely funny!

Rhys Nicholson is a seasoned performer with a genuine and likeable presence. Recommended!
