E for Ethel, Fri Feb 13

If you enjoy vibrant storytelling and free samples of “vintage” Australian wine then this is the show for you! Four Stripes (Caitlin Armstrong and Maddie Nixon) bring an interactive and hilarious act to the Adelaide Fringe where no matter what happens, The Show Must Goon (“the show must go on was taken”).

Armstrong is an outstanding storyteller with a brilliant, sarcastic sense of humour. She takes the audience on a creative, visual journey through a woman’s humiliating memories of three different beverages. Embarrassing tales of love chasing, lust and party mishaps are brought to life with wonderful delivery. Despite knowing “f*ck all about wine” Armstrong is even kind enough to individually fill each audience member’s cup between each story and explain how to properly taste them.

Entertaining tales of wine tasting through storytelling follow each sample. Armstrong masterfully breaks up the stories with a hilarious song, playing a charming ukulele. Her songs also occasionally feature the sweetest sounding f-bomb/c-bomb dropping you will ever hear. She even sings to life an interesting, thought provoking query about vegans that needs to be heard.

The stories are compelling, even heart-warming at times and delivered extremely well. You could picture each story while it was being told. Most importantly, they are funny! Vivid storytelling with a bit of free booze… what more do you need to hear? “Put on some Rosé coloured glasses” and enjoy!
