[MUSIC ~ ZAF]

The Cornucopia at Gluttony, Sun 16 Feb.

Entering onto the stage, the Soweto Gospel Choir provides an explosion of bright colour, majestic voices and enthusiasm. They gift their heart and soul to each other and the audience, sharing the story of their people’s history of oppression and their fight for freedom over the past decades. It is a celebration of the life they now have.

Each of the seventeen proud and passionate choir members is rich with unique talent and personality. Together with keyboard and percussion instruments, their voices build powerful and inspiring harmonies, showing why the Soweto Gospel Choir is worthy winners of three Grammy Awards.

Colourful, somewhat cheeky and full of life, the choir’s performance of traditional South African songs, along with classics such as Amazing Grace and Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, shows how versatile the choir can be. However, it is the African beats, the harmonious voices and exuberant dance-offs that had the audience cheering, dancing in their seats and asking for more.

The performance provides a wonderful journey of dance, harmony and beat that will have you leaving with a smile on your face, along with respect for the choir’s richness of life and appreciation of freedom.
