Dunstan Playhouse, Thu 11 Jun

“Don’t be scared” of the Storm ahead… The beguiling Amazon that is Storm Large is going to make everything alright, and you will be seduced and “deeply scarred without a mark” as she takes you on a wild ride through the crazy emotion of love; good love, bad love, lost love, insane stalker love, the love that we crave like an illness or a drug.

From Cole Porter’s I’ve Got You Under My Skin, a beautifully desperate version of American hardcore punk band Bad Brains’ Sacred Love to her hilariously psychotic and all-powerful version of Olivia Newton-John’s broken-hearted love song Hopelessly Devoted To You, Storm Large goes from soft and subtle to brilliant and ballsy in 0.5 seconds flat, and you won’t know it’s coming until it’s way too late.

The boys of Le Bonheur [French for ‘The Happiness’] are the perfect band to flow along with Storm’s dynamic vocal range and stage presence. Pianist James Beaton, guitarist Scott Weddle, Greg Eklund on drums and Matt Brown on bass, these four talented men follow their lead singer into a storm of desire, insanity and anecdotes from her own crazy love as they seemingly feed off of her intensity and her power. Add some beautiful harmonies and the audience bares witness to something amazing; the goosebumps are involuntary.

Ending the evening with the original songs Boom Boom and 8 Miles Wide, you know that Storm Large has serenaded her way into your mind, she’s stolen your heart and you have been willingly Taken By Storm. Standing ovations don’t lie and neither will that lingering sense of crazy love.
