Channel 9 Kevin Crease Studio, Thu Feb 19
Nigel Major-Henderson is making a name for himself in the dance circles of Adelaide. After a successful show pieced together for last year’s Fringe, he wrote STRANDS, a show questioning the power and influence that the presence of one’s hair may have.
The soundtrack was compelling, veering between current dance tracks from mainstream club scenes to the wailing Kate Bush and Wuthering Heights. His young dance troupe work well together, and have obviously put in an enormous amount of rehearsal time as the 45-minute show flowed with very few noticeable flaws to the amateur’s eye.
The story line, examining young women and their behaviours and group mentality, was interesting and the appearance of main director and choreographer Major-Henderson was often humorous and always enchanting – the man can truly dance.
Together you can see a group of inspired and inspiring dancers, led by a worthy leader. Production wise the music needed to be smoother-large gaps appeared at times but the audience was respectful and the cast unfaltering.
