[FAMILY EVENT ~ POP CULTURE]

Adelaide Showground, Sun 3 Nov.

Supanova Comic Con & Gaming is a yearly exhibition celebrating everything that is popular culture. For those that enjoy movies and television, gaming, Cosplay (costume role play), anime, comic books, Supanova also brings world-renowned celebrities to the stage where you can hear them speak and answer questions and get yourself a ticket to have a photo and autograph with your favourite performer or character. This year’s star line-up included Billy Zane (The Phantom/Titanic/Zoolander), Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter/Star Trek: Discovery), Deborah Ann Woll (Daredevil/The Punisher/True Blood), John Jarratt (Wolf Creek/Boar), Julie Benz (Angel/Buffy The Vampire Slayer/Dexter) and the list goes on.

One of the biggest names appearing at this year’s Supanova is John Travolta; star of Grease, Pulp Fiction, Saturday Night Fever, Hairspray, Staying Alive, Face/Off and many more. Meeting him was a great pleasure for all those that eagerly waited in line, and an experience one will never forget. The Grease movie fans weren’t hard to miss; a brigade of Pink Ladies eagerly awaiting their turn to meet their ‘Danny Zuko’ in the flesh.

On multiple stages, punters can check out presentations from authors, cosplay and anime artists, exhibitions and even wrestling tournaments by the AustralAsian Wrestling Federation. Celebrities often occupy the stage and take audience questions. Even script writers and artists alike step up to offer you the viewer insights into the amazing world that is pop culture. Add a large mix of pop culture merchandise stands to peruse and tempt you into buying a piece of memorabilia; you will certainly enjoy your Supanova experience.

The entire Supanova experience and the abundance of memorabilia evoked so many childhood memories to resurface to the forefront of the now adult cashed-up purchasing mind. Suddenly, asking your parents to buy you the toy that you really must have is no longer a hindrance to your total and fulfilled happiness!

Cosplay is all about the fun of dressing up as your favourite movie or cartoon anime character. I’ll never forget the first time I saw my favourite Star Wars characters; it was like the Star Wars toys I had as a kid had come to life. Whole families, couples and even the lone Jedi get it on this and the costumes are simply amazing. The clicking of cameras buzzing around the cosplay folk adds to the fun-filled environment for the young and young-at-heart.

Supanova is a great opportunity for you, your family and your friends to immerse yourselves into and enjoy all things pop culture related. If you have never experienced a Supanova exhibition, then may I suggest you put this down on your ‘must do’ list when it returns to Adelaide in 2020.
