[COMEDY/Stand Up ~ WORLD PREMIERE ~ NSW]

Ukiyo at Gluttony, Thu 11 Mar.

Australia’s own stand up comedian Tahir is back at this years Adelaide Fringe with his brand new show, TAHIR: Adult Comedy Meets S#!t Magic! Although as the name of the show suggests, this year’s show has a delightful and sometimes positively s#!t twist. Not only does Tahir amuse the masses with his trademark stand-up comedy, this year audiences are treated to some magic tricks too, “Oh My Gawd…”

Tahir is a qualified teacher of high school English, History and Drama by trade. One audience member was actually Tahir’s former student! Small world. Nevertheless his passion has always and will forever be stand-up comedy, plus this newly revealed love of magic. Not only is Tahir a stand up (comedian) guy, he also volunteers and fundraisers for many charities, including a nuero-genic disorder very dear to me; Angelman syndrome.

The Adelaide Fringe is set out slightly different this year since we have a pandemic to deal with, so some shows are ‘outdoors’. This created an interesting experience at Ukiyo during Tahir’s performance, although the venue is exactly what and where he would have wanted; music to his left, burn outs to the right every now and then, and then some.

Under Tahir’s instruction, any late comers are greeted with tremendous audience applause. And if you would like to get up answer your phone and leave, go ahead. Just bear it in mind, you will become part of the next joke. This particular show the assumption was raised by Tahir, “He’s gotta be either a doctor or a drug dealer,” to the sound of everyone’s laughter.

Tahir has always loved magic, albeit magicians actually give him the s#!ts! Even so, during the duration of his performance the audience is blown with magic tricks. Some tricks maybe not so… With a smoke machine and mysterious music, many props are used to execute said magic tricks including a ping pong ball, rope, a teddy bear, a bird (or two), bubbles, coke bottles and even a deck of cards. Without fail, there’s a comical humorous twist with each trick.

Three members of the audience were chosen to act out an impromptu scene via instruction from Tahir. Each member was given a line and an action to undertake, with the topic of (without giving too much away) a Thermomix. With some background music thrown in, it makes for a hysterically laughable segment.

Tahir does what magicians rarely do and teaches the audience how to perform a certain magic trick. Such a word as abracadabra is nowhere to be heard, but instead it’s one of Tahir/Habib’s trademark sayings: “Oh my gawwwwwd!” that casts the magic spell.

Take in a bit of magic and a lot of fun and head to Gluttony to check out some Tahir comedy magic.

And if you would like to treat the kids, Tahir is performing his family-friendly show, TAHIR – THE WORLDS BEST WORST MAGICIAN! Why not get along and see both.
