Gluttony – The Piglet, Thu 18 Feb

Turkish born, Australian comedian Tahir is formally an English and Drama teacher by trade, but he is best known for comedy and, from film and television, the character Habib in Fat Pizza, Housos and Bogan Hunters. Not to mention, Tahir is one of the creators of the new Australian television comedy series Here Come The Habibs!

Tahir’s routine: Bogans, Wogs, Asians and Other Aussie Citizens raised the roof with side-splitting laughter and tremendous applause of the full house crowd every minute of the show! With the honest humour, funny twists on true stories and the use of stereotypes leaving nary a dry eye from the all gut-busting hilarity.

At the beginning of the performance Tahir asked the question ‘what represents Australia?’ He selected random members of the audience throughout the show to give one word describing what represents Australia, to which they quickly obliged. The description words that come from our audience members were: beer (ha ha), sport, mateship, humour and working. Although a different word kept coming to my mind which describes not only Australia but is quite apt for the show title itself, Equality!

Tahir’s jokes are quick and extremely witty with accents used where appropriate, along with the use of props twisting the meanings of certain popular songs, all adding a whole other element of humour to the already immensely hilarious production. The audience was commended for getting the jokes quickly, for that Tahir called the crowd ‘smart’.

To quote the character Habib, this sketch is ‘Fully Sick!’ and a must see at this year’s Adelaide Fringe.
