[COMEDY/Performance ~ AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE ~ NSW]

Parasol Lounge at Gluttony, Sat 7 Mar.

It goes without saying, Tahir is truly an amazingly talented all-rounder in his professional life; not only is he an actor and the exceptionally popular character Habib (Fat Pizza, Swift And Shift Couriers and Housos), plus many other television appearances, he is also the conceptualiser and a co-creator of his own sitcoms (Street Smart and Here Come The Habibs); is one of Australia’s absolute best stand-up comedians and internationally renowned performer; and a former English Drama teacher (yes you read that right); he is also a legitimately down-to-earth Aussie! (albeit of Turkish decent).

At this year’s Adelaide Fringe, the extraordinarily talented, multi award and Logie winner TAHIR is back with his brand new production Pick of the Comedians. 6 stars. One can expect not only side-splitting laughter to Tahir’s trademark humour and immensely entertaining banter with his audience members, but you will also be wowed by his skills in magic!

The packed multicultural audience which contained many nationalities and patrons of all ages were enthralled by Tahir’s odd entry and the Arabic dancing that followed. The audience interaction kicked off directly as we were instructed by Tahir to (pay-out) applaud any late-comers and really make them feel welcome; there are always late-comers. And that there were…

In spite of the fact that Tahir has been in Australia since he was four years old, he is still questioned as to whether ‘Tahir’ is actually his real name, or is it just his stage name? Moreover his name is still often mispronounced, unlike names like Adam and Wil which no one ever gets wrong. You wanna hear a strange name? There was a kid in Tahir’s school class had a really strange name… Ufuk. As you could image, this kids name was always mispronounced by substitute teachers!

Although Sydney has its spectacular landmarks like the Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Tahir explains he loves being in Adelaide, home of the..? Upon quizzing the audience, it would appear that Adelaide is home to some scrumptious food and beverage like a Kitchener bun, the iconic Farmers Union iced coffee, the AB pack, villi’s and fruchocs (fruchops), etc., the list then added to by his own descriptive words, not to mention the quick-witted humour therein.

The gut-busting, humorous hour seamlessly rolled on in typical Tahir fashion with jokes, stories around observing human behaviour, answering private number phone calls, and accent imitations. Along with wigs, masks, music, and props routines. A couple of audience members were even invited on stage to perform acts with Tahir and a toilet roll was awarded. Improv is always hysterically entertaining; not only for the audience! And let’s not forget Tahir’s ultra-impressive magic trick skills, (YES, he can really do magic!) OMG!

Warning!, rib-tickling, side-splitting laughter and sore cheeks are definite side effects of the Fully Sick, high spirited, comedic production TAHIR – Pick Of The Comedians. 6 Stars, at this year’s Adelaide Fringe.
