Toby Halligan May Be “The Bad Gay”, But He’s Also A Fiercely Hilarious Social And Political Commentator – Feast Festival Review

West Bar, Sat 21 Nov. Toby Halligan claims he is dreadful at being gay. He says he can’t dance or dress appropriately and is completely awkward on dates due to having nothing common, sweating profusely and having ADHD. What he lacks in fitting a gay stereotype, he makes up for in other areas. Halligan is a fiercely hilarious social and political commentator. Originally from Canberra, Halligan commented he felt comfortable in Adelaide with our relaxed nature and ability to be fairly unfazed by odd things going on around us. The Feast Festival audience relished his social analysis of queer life, the portrayal of gay and lesbian people in Politics and the sometimes uncomfortable goodwill by heterosexual friends trying to set gay people up. Halligan reminisced about Tony Abbott as Prime Minister, the man that provided so much material for comedians like him. Some of his funniest moments were discussing the overseas reaction to Abbott eating the raw onion. Halligan is a naturally hilarious likable guy. He keeps an audience interested with his frenzied energy and wittiness. A fantastic comedian well worth seeing. Bobby Goudie
