Space Theatre, Fri 5 Jun
Come down to The Clover Club to drink, laugh and cry… or so we were promised. There wasn’t much time to drink in this hour-long show (not 70 minutes as advertised) with the rapid fire acts coming one after another. That was, in itself, no bad thing but there wasn’t much laughter either; at least there were no tears.
Instead, we were pleasingly entertained by a selection of songs and dances, with the highlights being a high-energy instrumental from the six-piece Clover Tones band, and burlesque performer Luna Eclipse’s solo Charleston and joint Lindy Hop with Jarryd Reynolds.
Hosts Eric Santucci and Louise Messenger certainly shared chemistry when singing together, but their emceeing was forced and unpolished. The show was enjoyable enough and there was plenty of variety but it didn’t cover everyone in clover.
The Clover Club continues at Space Theatre, Adelaide Festival Centre, until Sat 6 Jun.
