Palace Nova’s Cinema 7, Fri Mar 13
The Australian premiere of The Heckler was an evening in celebration of comedy all-around. It began with some brief stand-up spots by comedians performing at this year’s Fringe including Bev Killick and Mick Niven – who were great and are still performing on this final weekend, if you are looking for one last comedy show to attend.
The film follows a comedian (Steve) who is trying to achieve success in the stand-up world, and in the process accidentally switches bodies with the heckler (Mike) who’s been stalking him. Steve must find a way to reclaim his body before Mike destroys his career, relationships and his family.
The Heckler focuses on the dichotomy central to the world of comedy: the dangerous tendency towards self-absorption with the necessity of being yourself in order to be successful. The ensemble cast was terrific and made for an amusing evening full of laughs. A mix between King Of Comedy and Freaky Friday, The Heckler is an entertaining film, which will hopefully be returning to Adelaide for more playing time in the near future.
