Gluttony’s La Petite Grand, Thu Mar 12
Elena Gabrielle and Grant Buse team up to showcase a funny hour of ‘what if’ type scenarios based around an imaginary customer device person in perhaps an Apple Shop… highlighting the ‘shuffle’ mania and making a little bit of fun at possibly everyone in the audience… without them even knowing half the time.
The two Melbourne based solo artists working a variety of combinations and in radio, burlesque, theatre, comedy and naturally, the music industry. You only have to sit in on a few minutes of their show to realise their musical strength, which is impressive in its own right.
Their show is a hoot, proclaiming to perform 1000 songs in an hour. Everything you can think of, in one massive comedic medley. The two interact well, but their show hasn’t got the polished feel you would hope for with a combined bio the two proudly share. It is a little amateurish in places but given the fast pace of the show this is quickly forgotten with their hilarious parodies being parroted to the audience without drawing a breath. A little more interaction with the audience would not have gone astray although possibly would have interrupted the fast paced gibberish that was so cleverly concocted. Both of these musical comedians sing beautifully and it is hard to not simply switch off to the lyric and simply listen to the melody, until you then hear everyone laughing and wonder what you have missed.
The venue itself didn’t lend itself to the show in terms of it being a little more interesting had they been raised or had more going on physically than their musical satire. But overall the group watching were chuckling pretty much non-stop for the show and certainly there was a song in there for absolutely everyone – of course unless you are a One Direction fan in which case you should just go home.
