[CHILDREN’S/Interactive ~ SA]

Theatre One at The Parks Theatres, Wed 19 Feb.

Walking into the intimate community theatre at The Parks, set the scene for a fun filled 45 minutes jam packed with singing, dancing and so much more.

The session started with a welcome song as the kids and parents sat around in a circle – sounds pretty standard right, it totally gets better! Once we’d sung a few songs, had a wiggle and everyone was feeling a bit more relaxed the instruments came out and I think just about every kid’s eyes lit up.

We started with triangles and worked our way through tambourines, egg shakers, drums and a few other instruments and ended with every parents favourite (insert major sarcasm here), the recorder. Just when you thought you were starting lose the kids’ attention out came the parachute and drew everyone back in. It was at this point when I couldn’t tell who was smiling more, the children or the parents.

This group was an excellent opportunity for the children to not only explore the many different instruments provided but allows them to develop their social and motor skills and engage in sensory play of a different kind. The children aren’t taught as such how to play the instruments but allowed to just look, feel, explore and figure it out for themselves, and I for one think that is brilliant. It was clearly not the instructor’s first time at running a class like this. She was fun and energetic and knew exactly how to keep the children engaged the whole way through.

With singing, dancing, instruments and who could forget everyone’s favourite, the parachute, how could you possible go wrong. Don’t miss out!
