The Garden Of Unearthly Delights’ Umbrella Revolution, Fri Feb 20

There were some huge genuine laughs from the capacity audience tonight for Tom Gleeson. He is a sharp, experienced comedian with a comfortable polished show.

Life is pretty good for Tom. He explains tonight that he travels business class, drives a luxury European car and has a lovely wife and two children. For a comedian who has often created his comedy gold from what is wrong in his life or the world, he says it is now harder to find material when content. Even Tony Abbott jokes are now just too easy for him.

Gleeson still manages to draw out hilarious stories from everyday awkward life situations, like people unnecessarily rushing at airports and odd funeral toilet practices. With his kids growing up he reflected tonight on his own childhood in country NSW and how society has changed in what is acceptable parenting.

The show seemed to start off brilliantly tonight, but then became a little lacklustre in the middle and didn’t quite pick it up again in the end. Make sure you buy your Adelaide Fringe tickets quick though if you do want to catch this treasured Australian comedian.
