Nexus Cabaret, Sun Mar 15
Wine, Women & Song is a joyful musical performance by a group of Adelaidian women called Con Brio, who performed in a relaxing atmosphere of wine and laughter. The show is a terrific way to end the festival as it was a celebration of music, emphasising the love of art that has brought us all to the Fringe in the first place.
This premiere consisted of choral performances from a local group of 14 women, accompanied by piano and guitar (though some numbers were complete a Cappella). Con Brio performed a range of numbers, from classics like Showboats’s Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man and Somewhere Over The Rainbow (from The Wizard Of Oz) to more contemporary songs such as Sting’s Fields Of Gold and Enya’s May It Be.
Each of the songs were introduced by the women with stories that explained why the songs were important to them, making for a much more touching and intimate performance. Overall it was a relaxing evening full of wine, music and laughter, and the perfect note to end a successful Festival season.
